Restore Country and participate
in the carbon market

Carbon projects are opening doors for Country, culture and community

Carbon farming can be a powerful way to care for Country, earn additional income, and create jobs for your mob. Getting started can feel overwhelming, with numerous rules, paperwork, and decisions to make, not to mention where to start and who to trust.

Why us

Working together, with respect for Country

Carbon projects have not always delivered fair outcomes or lasting value for communities. Gondwana Carbon was founded to help set a higher standard by building strong, transparent projects that prioritise fairness and trust.

We work in partnership with Traditional Owners to develop carbon projects that respect Country, culture and community.

Indigenous carbon projects

Work directly with technical experts

Every project is shaped around the needs of Country and community, with our senior experts involved from day one. We respond quickly, adapt to your needs, and focus on what will deliver real results for your situation.

Experienced, licensed, and ready to help

We’re small by design with deep experience and a strong network. As a licensed Australian Financial Services (AFSL) provider, we’re authorised to give advice on and trade ACCUs. We support you through every stage of the project, from land assessment to carbon estimates and delivery.

Community comes first

When your project generates ACCUs, 100% of the revenue goes back to your community. Your land, community-led, your benefit. That’s how it should be, and that’s how we work.

Focus on transparency

We explain everything up front, in plain language. Our contracts are transparent, with no hidden fees or fine print.

Our work with Indigenous communities

Batavia Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation

Since 2023, Gondwana Carbon has served as the agent for the Batavia Savanna Burning Project, assisting in the development and management of their carbon project.

The starting point

Indigenous communities across the Cape York region have long led the way in caring for Country through sustainable fire management. As they continue to build on this deep cultural knowledge, many are also seeking economic independence through carbon projects that align with their values and priorities.

However, operating and scaling these projects come with complex regulatory requirements and evolving carbon market conditions. Batavia Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation (BTOAC) did not just need technical assistance, but a partner who understood Indigenous governance, cultural protocols, and the regulatory landscape, and who could offer a relationship based on fairness, respect and shared goals.

Practical support where it's needed

To meet BTOAC’s needs, our support is focused on helping with the parts of the project that need outside knowledge:

  • All technical compliance and regulatory requirements are managed, allowing the community to focus on caring for Country and leading their work.

  • Guidance is provided to support method implementation and refinement.
  • Access to premium carbon markets is supported, with higher returns flowing directly to the Traditional Owners.
  • Planning and strategy advice is ongoing, helping to strengthen both technical and financial sustainability over time.

  • Funding applications are prepared in line with community priorities, supporting growth and adaptation as the project evolves.

  • At the heart of it all is a fair, respectful partnership, built on listening, trust, and long-term commitment.

Our work with Indigenous communities

Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council

Kowanyama Traditional Owners engaged us to assess the risks and opportunities of the new upcoming Savanna Fire Management method, enabling them to make an informed funding decision that supports both cultural and economic outcomes.

The starting point

Kowanyama has been operating a successful Savanna Fire Management (SFM) project. With a new SFM method set to be released in 2025, the Traditional Owners were seeking support to understand how the updated method might impact their project. At this point, they had not received any government guidance or support.

To explore a transition to the new method, the Traditional Owners were considering applying for funding through the Land Restoration Fund (LRF). Accessing this funding required a detailed market and risk assessment of the opportunity, but the new method presented many uncertainties for the community.

Guiding informed decision making

To support Kowanyama, we conducted a comprehensive assessment of potential business opportunities and associated risks. This included a detailed financial analysis of the projected benefits of transitioning to the new method, with consideration of available LRF funding. We ensured they had a clear, well-rounded understanding of the implications, enabling them to make an informed and confident decision.

The path forward

Following the assessment, Kowanyama is now actively exploring a transition to the new 2025 method. Early projections indicate that this shift could generate an additional xxx ACCUs per year for the Traditional Owner group.

The proposed approach also meets all key requirements of the LRF grant, positioning the organisation well to pursue funding that supports both economic and cultural outcomes.
