Indigenous savanna fire management projects are behind most of the credits we offer
Gondwana Carbon is privileged to work with Indigenous partners utilising the savanna fire management method (SFM) in northern Australia. These projects apply traditional Aboriginal burning practices, known as cool or cultural burns, that reduce greenhouse gas emissions from wildfires.
These practices, guided by Indigenous seasonal calendars, have been used for over 60,000 years to care for Country, protect biodiversity, and support culturally significant species. Compared to conventional hazard reduction burning, traditional fire management is cooler and more effective at preventing destructive late-season fires.
The impact of Gondwana supported SFM projects
Over the last 20 years, savanna fire management projects have delivered broad co-benefits, including employment, intergenerational knowledge transfer, improved mental health, and stronger community resilience.
Why us

Projects chosen with care
Every project we work with goes through a careful due diligence review to make sure it delivers real outcomes and meets strong environmental, cultural, and ethical standards.
Buyers matched with respect
We connect buyers to projects in ways that reflect what communities want, not just what buyers ask for. We listen first and make sure any partnership works for the people leading the project.
Prioritising transparency
Centred on a foundation of fairness, transparency, and long-term benefit, one hundred per cent of the agreed-upon credit sale price goes directly to the communities leading the work.
Our Community first model
Carbon credit revenue going back to the communities
Fair, transparent, and community-led
We work closely with Traditional Owners to support projects that reflect local priorities and care for Country. Every dollar from agreed-upon credit sale price goes directly to the communities leading the work. Buyers pay a separate service fee for the role we play in maintaining these partnerships, ensuring integrity, and supporting project growth and success.
Revenue stays with community
The industry has been criticised for models where project partners receive far less than their fair share. In such cases, others involved have taken a significant cut by adding commissions and buying credits from the projects at a low price, and then selling them at a premium.
Our approach is different. The Indigenous partner receives the pre-sale agreed-upon price, which goes back to the community that earned it. We charge a separate fee to the buyer for the work we do, so the revenue stays where it belongs.
The service fee enables us to remain involved in the long term, supporting project development, building skills, managing reporting, and ensuring both communities and buyers have the clarity and confidence they need.
